Registration

Enroll in Central Illinois Farm Beginnings and get the information and support you need to jump-start your entrepreneurial farm business.  Photo by Glenda KapsalisYou can apply to Central Illinois Farm Beginnings by downloading and completing a Program Application . Note that if two people from the same family or farm business intend to participate in the program together under one tuition payment, then a Primary Application  and a Partner Application  should be completed and submitted together. If an individual wishes to take the class without a partner, then only a Primary Application  needs to be completed.

You must include a $100 registration fee with your application in order for it to be processed. The registration fee is non-refundable. It will be credited toward tuition upon acceptance into the program. Checks should be made out to The Land Connection.

Deadlines

All applications must be received by September 14, 2009. Early registration ends August 1, 2009. If your application is postmarked by August 1, you will receive a 10% ($150) tuition discount.

Enrollment

Acceptance decisions are made based on the contents of your applications as well as a personal telephone interview with one of the program co-facilitators. Up to two people in the same family or business can attend Central Illinois Farm Beginnings for each accepted application.

Standard tuition for Central Illinois Farm Beginnings is $1,500. However, students who register by August 1 receive a reduced tuition rate of $1,350. This tuition allows two people from the same family or business to attend the course’s nine business planning seminars six On-Farm Field Days, and participate in a customized mentorship with an experienced farmer in your area of interest. Tuition also includes books (Making Your Small Farm Profitable, Building a Sustainable Business, and Legal Issues of Direct Farm Marketing in Illinois), and catered lunch at the Saturday business planning sessions.

Central Illinois Farm Beginnings is coordinated and co-facilitated by The Land Connection and the University of Illinois Extension and is a member of the National Farm Beginnings Collaborative.
